An Election Day Message from the Denmark Facebook Account

Dear incredibly lucky Americans,

Apparently, you still have a democracy. Congratulations on that

If the last few years have shown us all anything, it’s that democracy sure as hell isn't a law of nature. It isn't gravity. It’s not something that just exists all on its own.

It is a fragile little construct, and history has shown us how quickly it can crumble in the hands of those who start taking it for granted.

That is why you need to remember that today is, first and foremost, a day of celebration. A celebration of democracy. And the wise, sensible truth that we’d like to try and hammer into your collective, thick-skulled consciousness amidst all the noise is this:

Once the votes are finally counted, you are actually all winners.

Yes, you read that right. Even those of you who will soon wake up with the taste of ashes in your mouth because your candidate got banished to the shadows, and you feel like you've lost absolutely everything. You have won, too!

You’ve won the greatest and most beautiful privilege of them all:
You were allowed to go down, pull a curtain shut, and cast your ballot in peace and quiet.

You’ve won because your system—despite your relentless and almost impressive attempts to derail it from the inside—is still standing. There is a staggering number of people in this world who would give their right arm to experience that.

So enjoy it. Eat some deep-fried, unidentifiable chemical object disguised as food, wave your striped flags around a bit, and rejoice in the fact that you survived yet another election cycle.

And remember:
If you aren't happy with the outcome, you have the privilege of voting the idiots out again in a couple of years.

Cheers from over here, and have a great Election Day

NOTE: As I peruse other posts from this Denmark account, I see it is managed by leftist ideologues, which is no surprise coming from Europe. But, they are leftist ideologues with a sense of humor... and this one above made me thankful to be an American. Thanks, you leftist Danes, you!
